“How to Re-gift and Host a Swanky Holiday Gift Swap Party”

The Southern woman would rather walk barefoot on the dirty sidewalk of a busy street, than to admit that she re-gifts presents.

However, if her holiday budget is a little tight, she might consider hosting a festive holiday gift swap party filled with friends, food, fellowship and free stuff.

If you are looking for ways to save cash and still give great holiday gifts for the ones you love, consider hosting a holiday gift party. Here’s how to exchange new items and hardly-touched toys and knick-knacks–that are better suited for your girlfriends house, than your own.

Step 1 -Plan for a spectacular holiday swap party.

Use evite to send free email invitations to friends. To keep the food costs low, infuse a sweet theme into the festivities.
Ask guests to bring holiday cookies and candies to snack on during the holiday swap.

Serve Southern drinks like Mint Juleps or Sweet Tea to infuse a little Southern hospitality into your party.

Step 2 -Create a theme for your gift exchange.

Before you invite friends to your holiday swap party, think about the types of gifts that will best serve your guests. Ask your guests to bring toys for children ages 5-15.

Or use sports equipment, gifts for the office and Christmas or Hanukkah gifts for women under $20 as the theme for the holiday swap.

Step 3 -Determine a dollar limit for swap party gifts.

To prevent a mixture of 99 cent toys and $100 dollar cashmere sweaters for the swap, set a budget for all swap gifts. Setting a realistic budget will help guests prepare in advance for the party.

Step 4- Set your holiday guest list with an even number of friends.

Select a minimum of 20 friends for the event. Ask your friends to bring a minimum of 2 gifts for the swap and one roll of wrapping paper for gifts.

If the swap theme is for clothing or accessories increase the limit to 4 items.

Step 5 – Create an area for people to swap items and wrap gifts.

Clear off a dining room table. Place items into  categories (clothing, baby, tween, toddler, designer clothing, etc). Put the items in clear view for participants to choose from.

Ask each party participant to select one item. Repeat this process until all gifts are gone.  After all gifts are selected, invite guests to wrap presents before leaving the party.

More holiday swap party tips…

  • Ask guests to bring new items to the holiday swap party. Regifting is allowed and encouraged.
  • Give leftover gifts to the first person who arrived to the party as a surprise gift.
  • Don’t forget to take pictures of the holiday swap party.
  • If two guests want the same gift, think of a tie-breaking holiday game to award the gift to the winning guest.

You can now freely exchange new items or re-gift unwanted presents at your own holiday swap party.

With these handy tips mentioned above, you are ready to spread the holiday cheer among your friends and save big on gifts.
